Anyone had experience with these two lenses?

I won these on eBay and kind of like the colors I get from them. Both lenses are in M42 mount and are made by Meyer-Optik. Primagon can focus to 40cm which is really close for an old lens. Primoplan can only focus down to 70cm.

I have no experience with them, but I can see why you're happy to have them! Old glass, just has so much character and soul, huh?

But I do own the Meyer Optik Trioplan 100 2.8 and it is my favorite piece of Art Glass for the trippy boozy bokeh.

Voe, If and when you tire of those, please give me first crack at them. I would love to play with them for a while.

If you do not tire of them keep posting photo's with them so I can see what I am missing...

How much did you win them for in the auction?

I read good feedback for the Trioplan 100mm f/2.8, and it is on my to buy list.

The more I use these lenses the more I appreciate them. It's just that lately I did not have enough free time to get creative with them, but I am looking forwad spending some quality time with my two new "german" friends

which will be reflected by posting photos here

I did not get them very cheap, but it is not too expensive either. The Primagon cost me 45EUR, the Primoplan which came with a camera cost me $83USD.

In an LBA spree on eBay last autumn, I found myself with four Meyer 50mm's: an Oreston 1.8 (US$45), 2 Domiplan 2.8s ($13 and $8, the latter on a $8 Praktica L2), and Primotar 3.5 ($26) - as well as the great Trioplan 100/2.8 ($27) and sharp Telemegor 180/5.5 (also $27), the last comparable to my Tele-Takumar 200/5.6 (US$30). All those Meyers, and some other 'German friends' acquired then - Enna, Isco, CZJ, all around US$30-50 each - are pretty nifty and 'soulful', yes. I should use them more. Now, not waiting for Oktoberfest! I rather lust after the Primagon and especially the Primoplan. When I can afford lenses again, I'll have to look for those. I wonder how the prices will be in a few months? [drools like a fool]

EDIT: Looking over my lists, I see that I *do* have the Primagon 35/4.5 (US$24) - but on a Contax? mount. Also a Helioplan 40/4.5 ($12) - but on a Leica M mount. They're right up there with the Ennas on Argus C3 and Sockel mounts. True LBA makes one sloppy. Aaarrrghhh...

UPDATE (2.5 years later): My Primagon and Helioplan are both in Exakta mount, very easy to adapt to PK, as was a CZJ Tessar 50/2.8 (12 iris blades). I also have a great M42 Meyer Trioplan 100/2.8 and Telemegor 180/5.5, both real winners. My Sockel and M-mount lenses got sold off. I also sold a Domi and acquired an Orestor near-twin, a Pentacon Electric 50/1.8. I've adapted an Argus-mount Enna Tele-Sandmar 100/4.5 to PK. All this old German glass ROCKS!

No experience with the lenses mentioned, the Meyers in my kit are 50mm lenses being the Oreston, Trioplan and the Domiplan. All are great on the colour but need a bit of fussing around for a tight focus. Next on my hitlist is the 135mm Orestor.

you got your stuff together, those are great pics, love the blues. Oh, it's all due to the lens, forgot about that!

I am also intrigued by those old alu lenses, they bring some nostalgia to our hearts :-)

Voe, glad that you had a chance to get outdoor!

I can see that Primoplan has quite a nice background bokeh in most of the close up focus images. Still some sensitive ten bokeh in some highlight rendering. But this is a lot better than Pentax 50mm bokeh rendering in general.

A little soft in the centre and I believe you are spot on in the focusing... Good candid tool I guess

The most of all is the nice construction of the lens itself...

This thread helped me pull the trigger on a Primoplan I found locally (not that I need more 50mm primes, but this was very good deal).

I think it definitely has unique bokeh. I've even read of some photographers swearing by their Primoplan as an irreplcaible creative tool because of the 'swirly' way it renders bokeh.

Anyway, here are some test shots I shot here in Vancouver with my Pentax K-x. Images not post-processed, JPEGs straight out of the camera. I think all of these were shot wide open at f1.9 :

I just bought a primoplan 58mm 1.9 from a local pawn shop for 25 bucks. And its in good shape, has 14 shutter blades and came with a Praktica FX camera. Dose anyone know if this was a good deal?

Yes, that is an exceedingly good deal. See the eBay COMPLETED LISTINGS for the Primoplan. The cheapest fetched US$100, lens only. Well done!

Awesome! Wonder if my camera is still good. Shutter looks like it could be replaced. Wonder if the timing is still correct, I'll have to take it by the local camera repair shop. It has a neat viewer on the top. The Bokeh is really unique. It is like a painting if you get the color green mixed with something darker. I have a Takumar super 50mm 1.4 both the 7 element and 8 element versions and this bokeh is even more unique then these.
