This is certainly a good news for me, I am (just recently) get hooked into wide angle and is drooling over the DA 12-24 or DA15. One more choice is never a bad thing. I hope this new tamron will be a cheaper alternative.

I had been waiting patiently for this lens for some time. But, when I called Tamron a few weeks back, all they could say is it would release in late May or early June. I have an important vacation in early June. I just could not wait anymore--I now own the Sigma 10-20mm.

There is not a lot of information on this lens yet, and, as usual, conflicting accounts already exist. We will just have to wait and see. The Popular Photography review which accompanied the lens' release was very positive though

All the results I've seen on this lens have indicated to me that it's not something I would spend $500 on... only reasonable sharpness in the center stopped down to f5.6 and f8 at the wide end, and the long end just has nothing to offer. I'd much rather see the Tokina 11-16 released in K mount.

dave sz where's that tokina 11-16?
It is the best ultra wide zoom available and it is a constant, fast f 2.8. It certainly is the ultra-wide I would have bought, if it was possible. I e-mailed Tokina, asking if they might ever release it in Pentax mount--they did not even reply to my e-mail.

I have to wonder if Pentax, with their 12-24 f4 making them a little money, hasn't worked something out with Tokina to keep that 11-16 out of Pentax mount!!! LOL Otherwise, the 12-24 would be in rough shape, sales wise. Here is a link to the Tokina in Nikon mount--Ken Rockwell's 2 cents. You can search Google and find endless hits for Tokina 11-16mm f2.8

I wouldn't be surprised to see a DA* rebranded 11-16/f2.8 in the near future. The DA* line is missing a wide angle and i know a lot of people (me included) who are holding out buying the 12-24 in the hope that there'll be a sealed offering soon. The focal length, speed and quality would be a perfect fit and this may explain why tokina hasn't released a K-mount version yet...
