I LOVE macro and went from a Sigma 180mm on my 40D to the 35ltd...as much as I LOVED the IQ from the 180mm, I find I like the 35ltd far more. It is about the same AF speed for non-macro and it's juuuust a bit lighter. The only caveat is the actually front element to subject for 1:1 magnification is < ~2" so you need to get VERY close to a lot of subjects.

One advantage of needing to get so close is the very interesting perspective (read angles) you have on the subject. To my eye the difference adds a lot to the images over longer macros in the right situation. I know it should not be different as 1:1 is the same no matter the actual focal length of the lens but it feels different to me. Maybe because the 35mm macro is closer to actually being it's true focal length than other longer macro lenses? Never read any info on what the effective focal lengths are for the various macros from Pentax.
