Sigma 17-70 Recognising as a 10-20

Hi,

I am having a problem with my Sigma 17-70 lens, i think it must have gotten damp at some time as i had a bit of fungis growing from some dust spots inside the front lens element, but i have been keeping it with heaps of silica gel, and it seems to be okay.

But the other problem i have, when i check the exif data it is showing up as a completely different lens!

Could it be the contacts? or faulty lens..

Try cleaning the contacts, and if it doesn't help I wouldn't worry about it... as long as it functions properly otherwise.

The only real negitive thing I can think of is your SR might be confused by the length.
So you might not be able to trust it.

Which program is reporting the lens name incorrectly? The EXIF doens't actually contain the name of the lens in the palce many programs look for that info - it contains a numeric coce. It's up to the program to then know which numeric code corresponds to which lens. It's possible your programis simply confused about the code used by this lens.

Lenses don't report their complete information to the camera - they just report a lens ID.

It's a known fact that the Sigma 17-70's lens ID is shared with a few different lenses. I know at least digiKam on Linux lists multiple lenses for pictures taken with the Sig 17-70.
