Just Got A DA* 16-50mm

I recently bought this lens from a fellow member here. Went to the Royal Ontario Museum last weekend for its low light testing. Let me know what you think. I added a little description to each pic for fun. All comments appreciated, thanks.

All photos with K10D & DA*16-50.

#1 An Egyptian woman prepares for a banquet

f4.0, 1/10s

#2 Repose - "Nude Male Youth in Quartz"

f3.5, 1/40

#3 Mephisto - cut from a single ruby crystal from Tanzania, with gold on obsidian base. 5750 carats

f3.5, 1/30

#4 Queen of Kilimanjaro - features worlds largest faceted tanzanite on 18-karat white gold. 242-carat tanzanite.

I have been playing with the idea of getting one of these for a while now. My DA*50-135 and now your pictures have poured even more fuel into the fire.

I think this will be mine too. No more worries for family indoor events and semi-ultra wide landscape shotes as I am well covered now

All very sharp with great color. The subject in the first is a bit freaky!

All the pics are straight jpeg from K10D with a little sharpening added in PP. Thanks.

I just got one of these and I'm a prime kinda guy. But I have been happily using the 50-135* and frankly find that it is 99% of the 77ltd (my favorite lens) when set around that FOV. Ridiculously good lens.

I held off on the 16-50*, but finally got to where I needed something flexible in a wide range. Picked up the 16-50* and so far it is impressive. I'll have to shoot it more back-to-back with my ltd primes but so far it is at least 95% of my ltd primes. When you get a good one, these are very good zooms. You're getting great color out of it.

This was at 31mm and the colors are *exactly* as they were in person. I'm finding that the 16-50 is pretty good at 16mm but gets *really* good in the middle of its FOV. Yeah, boring shot but there are a lot of subtle colorations going on, and this is with basically no pp - just some sharpening and bringing up the shadows a bit.

Great shot nostatic. Another reason I really want this lens is for its wide angle use. I don't have to buy another lens as this lens will serve the purpose.

I think you will be very happy with this lens. It is on the camera even more than my 400/5.6.

Great examples! I particularly like the last shot with the shallow DOF.
