Weather sealing rocks!

I hesitated a bit posting in this thread because some of the photo's here are quite a bit better then I am currently capable of. Anyway, this summer I purchased the DA*16-50 mainly because of the weather sealing, the 2,8 aperture and the extra 2 mm compared with the 18-55 kit lens. I bought it with my annual hiking and fishing trip to Northern Norway in mind. The second day in those mountains we where outpaced by this thunder shower (Picture 1) and I was not able to take any pictures during the rain and hailstones later on, because we where heading for some lower ground quite fast.

On one of the last day's the clouds came down and I was forced to set up camp (Picture 2). The temperature dropped, the wind picked up and a hour later it started raining. After this photo I retired in my sleeping bag to get warm again. On both occasions it wasn't a real big test of the weather sealing but having that capability was the most important reason I chose this lens!

I know how you feel because I felt the same way too. And then I thought: Eh <shrug>. The lens is the star here, not the photographer. We're just the assistants who try to help the lens do what it can do. Sometimes we don't get it right.

Yes and in my eagerness to share my reasons to buy this DA* lens I sort of made a mistake... One of my photo's with some bad weather posted here wasn't made with a DA* lens. Sorry! It's the one with the thunder clouds. That day I forced my self away from the 16-50 to see what the DA 50-200 was capable of. To compensate for this horrible mistake and give the 16-50 its due I'll post a new one...

I only have one DA* lens: DA* 16-50 (second copy though, replaced by the Pentax importer over here).

This photo was accepted into PPG. My only entry with the DA* 16-50.

I do use this lens quite a lot and I really like it.

Does well in B&W too, I believe:

Even on a grey day, it finds some colors:
