- DA* 16-50/2.8 ED AL (IF) SDM
- DA* 50-135/2.8 ED (IF) SDM
- DA* 60-250/4 ED (IF) SDM
- DA* 200/2.8 ED (IF) SDM
- DA* 300/4 ED (IF) SDM
- DA 35/2.8 Makro Limited
- DA* 55/1.4 SDM
- DA 35/2? SDM
- DA 17-70/4? ED IF SDM ?
- DA 55-300/4-5.6?
What I would like additionally:
- DA* 135-400/4.5-5.6 SDM (might be faster if APS-C only)
- DA 17-135/3.5-5.6 SDM (Based on Tokina)
- DA 18-250/3.5-6.3 SDM (Based on Tamron, hopefully faster focussing with SDM)
- DA 70-400/4.5-5.6 SDM (APS-C only)
So combined with existing and announced zoom lenses that would make (super WA left out):
- DA* 16-50/2.8 ED AL (IF) SDM
- DA* 50-135/2.8 ED (IF) SDM
- DA* 60-250/4 ED (IF) SDM
- DA* 135-400/4.5-5.6 SDM
- DA 16-45/4.0 ED
- DA 17-70/4? ED IF SDM ?
- DA 17-135/3.5-5.6 SDM
- DA 18-250/3.5-6.3 SDM
- DA 50-200/4.0-5.6 ED
- DA 55-300/4-5.6?
- DA 70-400/4.5-5.6 SDM
That would make: 18-55, 17-70, 17-135 and 18-250, so everyone can choose at what focal length he wants his walk-around to stop.
A Pentax SDM variant of the Tamron 18-250 would be extremely competitive IMO, not only would it have very welcome stabilization with F/6.3 at 250mm as opposed to the Canon and Nikon variant, but also possibly focus much faster due to SDM.
A user that wants to span 16/17-400 can choose two steps (17-70 + 70-400) or three (16-50 + 50-135 + 135-400).
A user that wants to span 16/18-250 can choose one step (18-250) or two (16-50 + 60-250) or (18-55/16-45 + 55-300).
I don't have any interest in wide range consumer zooms. I'd like to see some quality long glass. Something like a 100-300mm f4, 100-400mm f5.6 and/or 200-400mm f4 in zooms, and a 300mm f2.8 or 400mm f4 or f4.5 with high-quality, dedicated 1.4X and 1.7X SDM capable teleconverters. This would give us some of the capabilities available for Canon, Nikon and Olympus users. Even Sony has announced a 300mm f2.8 "G" with matched converters for the Alpha system.
I'm pretty sure only DA* lenses will have the SDM motor, and there's no way Pentax will be badging any variable-aperture zooms as star lenses. With that said, here's what I'd like to see:
Coupled with my current FA* 28-70 and 80-200mm F2.8 zooms, something that goes into the extreme-telephoto range would be nice, like a 250-500mm F4.5. I'd also gladly buy any fast prime 400mm or above.
Since the DA* lenses no longer have to support film (that's a bummer in itself), I'd also guess that a few lenses could be made faster than before, like a 500mm F2.8 or 600mm F3.5. I doubt Pentax will ever make these, however, as the demand for consumer lenses is significantly higher than that for pro lenses.
Well if canon can make a 24-105 F4 for a full frame, I can't see why they couldn't make a 20-85 (21-90) F2.8 for an APS-C. I would really like this range, it's wide enough yet with enough tele also. I can say that it would almost never leave my camera.
Hi, I cant afford the lenses I want in the current lineup!! next is 12-24mm or 10-17mm then the other then the fa limiteds
I think the current lineup and planned releases offers a pretty good range except that I'd like to see a 70/80-200 f2.8 (cos the tamron being released later in the year is looking real nice, high magnification, close focus and they say same image quality as 28-75mm, waiting to see what it is like in real life) - might be a hard call between it and the 60-250mm - anyway it would be good if pentax were to compete directly with that.
Something to replace the bigma da* 200-400mm f4 or da* 200-500mm f4-f5.6?
they could also re-release some discontinued lens ie the 200mm macro etc.
I'm pretty sure only DA* lenses will have the SDM motor
The planned 35mm is a DA and should have SDM. What reason would Pentax have to only equip the DA* lenses with SDM? An entry level Nikon D40 doesn't even AF without in lens motors, so why restrict it to up market DA* lenses?

Well if APS-C only that 135-400 could probably be a constant F4.5 at reasonable size.
Even Sony has announced a 300mm f2.8 "G" with matched converters for the Alpha system.
Dont forget the sigma 300mm f2.8
Im really hoping that they will release a HSM version of it for pentax once the DA* lenses are released. But in the meantime, they still do a K mount version.
17-105 F2.8 that is sharp wide open
A macro lens that is F1.4 so it can be used as a low light lens as well, making (for me, anyway) spending big bucks on a macro more justifiable.
I love my SMC M 50 1.4 but wish I could get as close to subjects as my sigma 17-70 could.
also, more primes that has F1.4
Funny how I always thought I was off kilter with the lens wants of Pentax owners.Seems like the middle is Now that I see so many posters saying they need a faster long lens or long zoom I feel better.
A 2.8 300 w/matching extenders and 100-300 f4 OR 133-400 f4 or 4.5 would be great also.
