Melbournian wide open bokeh comparison.

Due to the fact that it's expensive to buy to try multiple lenses I suggest this thread with the idea that all Pentaxians or non-pentaxians in Melbourne can take a photo wide open of the same subject and share it here with the rest of us.
There is no problem if different people post images made with same model lens.

Volna-9 50mm f/2.8:

Leica R 50mm f/2 Summicron:

Topcor 58mm f/1.8:

Sigma 50mm f/1.4:

Topcor 58mm f/1.4:

Pentax K 50mm f/1.2 (focussed on the reflection in the glasses which I did not put there

Pentax FA 31mm f/1.8 Limited:

Aha, that famous bronze statue baptised by pigeon poo most of the time.

Honestly, it all came down to personal preference and I love summicron rendering as I am biased by the name itself!

p.s. You finally got summicron? Hehe

I like the 1.8 Topcor best closely followed by the FA31.

I guess you have that second version summicron with the 55mm screw-in filter ring and sliding hood?

If so I'll blast over to Melbourne with my first version to contribute to your thread .-)

Great idea and I'm thinking how this could be a global thing.

James, this is actually your 50mm Summicron. Remember that I changed the Leica mount to K mount (Leitax adapter)?

This is the first version of the Summicron R 50mm as well. But you can try with other lenses as well. Maybe this is another reason for other Pentaxians to come to Melbourne.

BTW, all these photos are taken at different times for the last 1.5 years.

I gotta say, that summicron looks sweet! I always liked summicrons. The K1.2 looks good too

Topcor is actually a very good lens to use. Bokeh is smooth and creamy and sharp as hell. Surprised that I ignored its image altogether.

p.s. Long shift today, Voe.

I regret selling my Topcors but I was allured by the Pentax 50mm f/1.2 as I never tried an f/1.2 lens before. It's hard financially to keep many great lenses.

Oh my....what have I done....I just bought LEICA LEITZ SUMMICRON R 50mm f/2 LENS - eBay, For 35mm Rangefinder, Camera Lenses, Photography. (end time 31-Oct-09 12:24:08 AEDST)

You see James, this is your fault. You shouldn't have let me try the Summicron 50mm.

Hey Voe,

Its a bit hard to tell as they weren't taken in exactly the same poisiton/light..

Just initially my suprises are..

1) I actually dislike the Lieca

2) The 31 holds up really well against the fast 50s I think

It would be good to see a FA50/1.4 in their too.. James and I have one each on order, hopefully they come through..

Hi Joel, I agree about the light and the position, but unfortunately I could not have all these lenses at the same time. It all started as a personal comparison (absolutely non-scientific). But since I have the shots anyway and most likely I will keep trying other lenses as well I decided that it's a good thing to share.

I'm also not impressed about the Leica bokeh, but I like it's colors from what I have seen. Also I think for some reason B&W photos look great with summicron. But bokeh is the weak side of both 50mm summicron and summilux.

The 31mm has an excellent bokeh and colors IMO.
