DA 12-24mm - a real gem

I can only second other posters praising this lens - I agree it has a prime-like quality both regarding colour rendering, micro-contrast and sharpness, the last especially in the wide end. And it is solidly built, compared to the other DA-lenses I have.

A few examples can be found here: DA 12-24mm f 4.0 - Svein Erik Třien Photography- powered by SmugMug

Best regards
Svein Erik

Ok.... My Mother just sent me a $1000.00 for working on the yard of her beach house,,, so If you had the money which lens would you get of the 3 Wide Zooms and Why?

Great Shots Svein

I just picked up a used DA 12-24mm (and also a DA70) this morning . Here are two test photos I took before paying the previous owner. Both are at full aperture (F/4). JPEG files are directly from my K10D, no post-processing, only down-sized for posting. CA is there alright, but not excessive.

Full-sized photos:

- Photo 2

I'd take the Pentax 12-24, no contest. Maybe the Sigma 12-24 if you really care about full-frame.

Correct. I duly noted that in my previous post.

But considering the photos were taken at full aperture, the amount of PF is not excessive IMHO.

Interesting.... most reports I've read say this lens vignettes at all FL and is one of the only lenses that does so wrt UWA lenses. I think I should pop it onto my Mz-5n to have a look.

I have some hope then

They just got copies of this lens in and I was wondering what you really get for a Pentax DSLR.

It's HSM in Pentax mount as well, iirc. The older f/4 version is not.

*For Pentax mount, if the camera body does not support HSM, auto focus will not be available.
So I guess this would be great for the K20D.
