WIDE Zoom Options

I'm looking for a lens in the 10 to 20's range but I've seen alot of complaints on the DA 12-24 f4. Is there another lens in this range (or Close) that I would like?
I'm sending my Tamron 17-50 f2.8 to another forum member to test and see if he has the same FF problems that I'm having. But I still want a real wide lens.

well i dont have one in this range myself but the options are

Tamron 10-24
Sigma 10-20
Pentax 10-17 (fisheye) I have this but its not what you are looking for if i am not mistaken
Samsung 12-24

Sigma also makes a 12-24 EX DG but it is a monster being a full frame lens,. It did get better reviews than the origonal 10-20 however.

Having said that, I am pleased with my sigma 10-20

I must be out of the loop because I hadn't heard of any complaints about Pentax's 12-24. I have one and for me it produces some very fine images. There are some very fine lenses available out there. You makes your choice, you pays your money, and you takes your chances.

Yeah, I'm wondering what complaints you mean. I'm sure any lens is going to have *someone* somewhere complain about it, but overall, most people rate the 12-24 as one of the best zoom lenses Penax has ever produced. It and the 50-135 are usually the ones mentioned as being prime-like quality at every focal length.

I'm an Architect and my Sigma 10 - 20 has produced many excellent images for me.
A must when I'm shooting internals.

Haven't heard of any complaints about the 12-24. I sold my Sigma 10-20 to pick it up just a few weeks ago and I love it.

No complaints from the 12-24 I have.
I've tried the Sigma 10-20 - a fine piece with some character, but I still prefer the 12-24.
Brilliant colours, very sharp from wide open, microcontrast to die for - a lot of my finest work (IMO) comes from this excellent zoom.

Another vote for no complaints about the 12-24. In my opinion, it rates very close to prime lenses. The distortion level is modest, and the constant f/4 aperture meets my needs very well indeed.

So you're basing this on one bad Amazon review? I'm pretty sure you can find one for any of the wide-angles available.

The Sigma 12-24 is apparently very good. I was leaning towards it not willing to break my FF-compatible collection of lenses after ruling out the 10-20 (too soft) and the Pentax 12-24 (not FF) yet decided to order the 15mm ltd for being small and light.

Like I said, I'm sure *any* lens has someone, somewhere who doesn't like it. But presumably, if you managed to find that one bad review, you must have found at least 100 great reviews, too? I kind of doubt you'll find a better overall ratio of good to bad reviews for any other lens on the market. Maybe the FA31.

although the sigma 10-20 is my only non FF lens, it only vignetts at 13mm on my PZ-1.

I also hae retained mainly FF capability but not on the hope that pentax develops one, but because I have 3 film bodies,
