SMC P FA Lens - 50 mm - F/1.7?

Interested in purchasing an auto-focus fast 50 new or used, preferably for less than $200. Any suggestions, which lens where to buy?

At that price, you're limited to the Pentax-F f/1.7... maybe the FA too.

both of them being bit on the rare side...
If you'll find one of those grab it!!!
I have F50/1.7 and it's a stunning lens. Worth every penny. I have had few chances to upgrade it to FA50/1.4 but never seen the reason nor need to do so.

Good luck

Peter

Well rare-ish... you have one... I have one... half the people on this forum have one!

Still, it IS a stunning lens. All around sharp with nice enough bokeh and plenty fast enough for most low light shooting. Rarity isn't the problem; convincing people to part with theirs is

The only really good reason to upgrade to the FA 1.4 would be because that's a better looking lens. The F series was really hit with the ugly stick!

I believe what he meant was rarely sold or rarely available in the market as compared to the FA50 1.4 copies which are in constant circulation. part of the rarity is due to the fact that it is a discontinued lens.

F has a red label and slow and noisy AF. other than that, they are the same. btw, I think the F is much easier to find rather than the FA.
