Canon EOS 550D / Digital Rebel T2i Hands-on Preview: 1. Introduction: Digital Photography Review

Hopefully this will push Pentax to update firmwares on both K-7 and K-x so we can have full manual control as well.

I'd like to see a whole new camera with 1080p Even manual 720p is a far step below the resolution of full HD.

I'm really hoping Pentax pulls through soon, or I'll be switching brands...

I didn't mean getting 1080p, but manual settings.

Switching brands is a bit drastic I think. If your main focus is video, maybe, since it also lets you hook up an external microphone and gives you 1080p with full manual settings.

If photography is your main focus, I don't see a reason. The K-x is still outperforming the others when it comes to ISO. I wonder if Canon has improved ISO performance from the 7D to the 550D (I assume it's the same sensor).

bet there are other issues w/ full manual control and that's why they yanked it...

Manual control isn't for the faint of heart. Being an entry level DSLR, the "powers that be", probably thought few would know how to utilize such control, much less want it. They failed to see the growing number of us looking for specialized video capabilities that are on a limited budget.

Even at an increase of $100.00 it would be an awesome value for that control. I use that amount since that is the difference between the T1i/500D and the T2i/550D. There's a lot more to it, like expanded frame rates, and of course 1080p, but all in all it should be doable in the $650.00 - $700.00 range.

I hope Pentax is the first to use the new Epson 1.44MP resolution (800x600xRGB) EVF on their next DSLR with 1080p and Eye-Fi support.

If you're going to be switching brands just because of video, then I don't know why you even went with Pentax in the first place as they are one of the later companies to release a DSLR with video.

O M G. The 550D features are so "in yer face"

1080P FULL MANUAL. MICROPHONE JACK. Cheaper than 7D. End of story.

I just bought a K-x. The worst part is i came from a Canon 400D! Good thing I only sold 1 lens! should've waited a bit

Will be keeping the K-x though, since it fits my 5 non-AI nikkors

Heh, you guys are quick to get after me!

YES, movie is important to me....however, I didn't get into film making until about 6 months ago. With that said, I wasn't ready to drop my k20d for a k-7 with the assumption that they would be releasing a 1080p product to compete with Canon.

Frame rate control is also AMAZINGLY better than converting fps. Shooting native 24p vs. 30p and converting to 24p will save hours-literally.

I travel developing countries so carrying a "one-size-fits-all" solution, IE VDSLR, is really important. I don't have the money for a 5dmkII and I'd really like something a little smaller.

I went Pentax because of their legacy glass and unrivaled build quality. Really, I think a k100d feels more "solid" than a 50d, hands down. I really can't stand the UI and button layout of the other companies either. But, at the end of the day, the end product is what's trying to be achieved-HD video.

While 1080p isn't a MUST, I will bet good money that all of HD will be heading that way as a "standard" HD resolution and that's why I the next DSLR I buy will be 1080....and mic jack, of course.

Yes of course, but as video on DSLR will get better I'm sure they'll do the switch as well. ISO performance will only get better, so using smaller apertures will be less and less of a problem as well.

Also, what I ment by my reply is that I doubt the amount of users of video on DSLRs will get smaller, I'm sure it will only get bigger.
