Please, make old skin available?

I'd like to also request the ability to use the regular skin - maybe just make it available via a separate link?

My iphone 3G is fast enough, and I really prefer to see the old skin, complete with automatic image loads, etc.

The new skin is a *great idea, but it should be an option IMO, not mandatory.

Please...?

I'll see what I can do. But it won't be changed until I can come up with solution that automatically detects and applies the skin without forcing it.

If I'm automatically authenticated via a cookie, could that cookie be used to pass skin preference, and maybe result in a page reload if necessary? That way we could have 'mobile skin preference' as a profile setting also.

How do I get out of the mobile skin? I was changing skins on my laptop and I inadvertently switched to the mobile skin and now I'm stuck in it. I see virtualy no options on my User CP to change much of anything. I've cleared cookies, history, temp files, etc. - no help. I've even tried logging into my account via two other computers - no luck - just the mobile skin. If I log off, I get the default (non-mobile) skin.

Last time I ran into this type problem was on another site - I had to go deep-diving into my registry to fix it and every time I rebooted and re-visited the site I was back to the mobile view. I hope that is not the case here. Help!

The mobile skin isn't supposed to be selectable by PC's.

Thanks for the reset link! Back to normal.

Agreed on the mobile skin. Unfortunately, the mobile skin selection is perilously close to the normal PC skins on the User CP. Not a nice trap

By the way, it was my understanding that there is/was a bug in IE 7/8 that sometimes made websites think a IE browser was a mobile device. I don't remember the details but it was the problem I was referring to where I had to continuously reset a registry setting prior to visiting another site.

Anyway... Thanks for your help!

I'll look into that! While the mobile style is hidden from the quick style selector, I guess it isn't in the User CP.

Update: an option to enable or disable the mobile skin has now been added to the User CP.

The mobile skin is not displayed on my BlackBerry 8310 Curve's BlackBerry Browser in the way it is in Adam's screenshot. No matter how I try to adjust the font settings, the text is displayed in a large font. It makes reading threads very tedious and difficult. Here's a screenshot:

Any idea why this would happen? When I view it in Opera Mini (looks more like Adam's screenshot) or Bolt (displayed in very small, but still readable, font), it isn't an issue.

DISCLAIMER: I realize that this post might actually involve an issue with my BlackBerry and not the mobile skin, but I'm not familiar with the workings of mobile web pages so please excuse me if this post is too off topic

There must be something wrong with your configuration, although I do know that the browser in the BlackBerry 9000 series is much improved over the 8000's. Have you tried decreasing the global font size? If that doesn't help, either use Opera, or switch to the full-size skin (although I doubt that will be easier to browse than the mobile skin, even with the font problem above).

Thanks, Adam. I tried adjusting the global font size as you suggested, but to no avail. It's weird b/c PF is the only site that this font size occurs in. Oh well. If any other users have any ideas, I'd appreciate them, otherwise I'll continue to use Opera (which is inconvenient only insofar as there's no way to make it the default browser).

Just gotta say, this is brilliant, and necessary. More and more people are not viewing sites on a full size computer all the time. I have been viewing forums via my WinMo devices for years and it was horribly painful (although I am now done with WinMo hopefully forever, and I can now render full size web, as well as flash in a few months), this is still nice. Even on an iPhone viewing a full size website is a chore, it's a doable chore unlike the WinMo browser, but a chore. You are one of the first sites to do this, and I have to just say well done, great forward thinking, and thanks!

Just as a windows bash (and I use windows but accept the bugs and work around them) why are you using IE7/8??

UNless you have to use it at work, why not download firefox, Flock, Opera, Chrome, or any other browser that is free? All IMHO are better than IE. I was actually a person that wouldn't switch for a long time because IE tended to work fine, but little glitches like yours are a great reason to switch! Plus, I've found having more than one browser on the PC is useful. My wife uses Firefox, I use flock and IE is there for guest. Keeps all our stuff separate and works like a dream!

And again, thanks for putting the mobile skin together, you deserve a noble prize or something!

I still think that IE7 has better rendering than any other browser, alothough FF is faster. Anyway, I hope you all are enjoying the mobile skin!
