Cool Mobile Skin Now Available!

I've recently installed an extremely simple forum skin which will be displayed if you access PentaxForums.com on portable devices (i.e. BlackBerries, iPhones, PDAs, etc.). This skin should result in quicker loading, easier browsing, and easier replying to PMs and posts while on the go. Enjoy!

Update: there is now an option in the User CP to enable/disable this skin when browsing from your mobile device (i.e. if you're using a large-screen device with a fast connection).

Well done Adam.
What a great idea - now people can be informed of news and marketplace items wherever they go! Bummer for us on the other end of the world...

This site just keeps getting better and better.
Thanks and kudos to you.

It does not work on my iPhone. It seems that I have been forced back to the green skin no matter which I choose.

Edit: I just dumped all my cookies, cache, and history. No difference.

Try again. Turns out it was only enabled for administrators earlier.

It's working now. Thank you!

Edit: just an FYI, the scale is kind of small on an iPhone. If you would like I can email you a photo.

Can't do much about that, although isn't there a global option on the iPhone to increase webpage font size for certain sites?

Actually no. You can zoom in on any web page you want, but it is not persistant. What you describe might be an option after the upcomming software update this summer.

If you wanted to, and I sure wouldn't blame you if you didn't, you could build an iPhone specific layout. You could then put a bit of code in the header that would automaticly point any visiting iPhone/iPod Touch to that version. It's not as much work as it sounds like. Of douse if you only have a small handfull of people visiting from an iPhone it's probably not worth the hassle. It's not unusable as it is, everything is just a bit small. Some things you need to zoom in on to read.

Come to think of it, if I remember correctly you can put a tag in the page header that will tell Mobile Safari the maximum page width in pixels, effectively forcing everything to upscale. I'll look it up a bit later.

At the moment I have a plugin placing the code in the meta tags, so it wouldn't be hard for me to add some of my own. Could you also post a screenshot of what the site looks like on your device?

The mobile skin is working for me, but I would like to see the screen narrowed a bit for the iPhone. I can't seem to find a way to force the full page view... Am I missing it?

Hi,

great idea. I tested it on my Ipod Touch and it's pretty neat for quick browsing.

Two things annoy me a bit though:

1-images do not show, I have to click on them, opening up new pags. I understand this is more or less unavoidable, but still...

2-there doesn't seem to be a way to disable the mobile skin. That can be very annoying at times.

Just my two cents.

Actually, we are both asking for the same thing. It is simply a matter of perspective. What I would like is all the text to be larger. the easiest way to accomplish this would be to narrow the max width.

This is great. I was just checking a reply to a post from my iphone and it popped up in the mobile view. As far as the size it is fine for me (especially in horizontal mode). It would be cool if it gave a small thumbnail for images instead of just a link but overall I love it.

I'll use it a bunch and give any feedback I may have.

Thanks!
John

I, for one, do not like the mobile skin when browsing on my iPhone. I prefer to browse the full version, as mobile Safari is capable of rendering the site as-is. I could easily double-tap to zoom into a section, plus view images.

Please figure out a way to allow users to selectively use this mobile skin.

I'll add a link to the regular skin later on. However, regardless of yur mobile browser, using the site via the mobile skin will be easier, it's just that it's not as flexible for media.
