Semi-macro shot

This shot is from a recent class in macro photography. It doesn't qualify, perhaps, as a true macro shot, due to the low magnification. I used f/4 so as to reduce the depth of field.

Pentax K10D, D FA 100mm Macro.

Ole,

I'm certainly not an expert, so take my comments for what they are worth.

I like the color and lighting of the flowers against the dark background. I'm not sure the composition works for me though. I find the flower in the bottom left corner somewhat distracting. I think if the in focus flower (subject) were larger (and a bit sharper?), the surrounding flowers wouldn't take away from it as much. Maybe some cropping ,especially off the bottom would help?

Thanks. I agree. I tried to crop almost all of the flower at the bottom away and that helps a lot! Thanks for the help!

I like this crop. Reducing the amount of the flowers on the right brings out the main flower considerably, yet it doesn't make it look like an awkward loner

Thanks! Should probably do both crops before I invest in a 16x20 blow-up!
