I can go back

We have a few old abandoned stone buildings in our area near the coast that I have photographed from time to time. It makes for an interesting setting and now that I have the pentax and a couple of lens want to go back during different seasons or time of day. This gate and old garage are right off the side of the road and are examples of other structure not far away. The pictures I get are okay but I have seen far better ones of similar themes on this and other web sites. What can I do now or in the future to make these pictures more interesting and pop the texture and shapes in these structures.

1. garage or barn

2. old rusted gate

3. Gate detail

4. gate detail

I don't expect critiques on all the photos but goodl critical comments on overall composition, angle of photos, color, sharpness, contrast?. Even to the level: should I take the old vines off the gate for better detail photos?

I can go back and retake these.

Personally, I think the vines are in the way but, if its NOT your property, don't break the law.

I think the gate should be shot dead-on if that is, there's nothing that distracts, in the background.

I like the detail shot. Or you on auto-focus because I think the focusing is on the vines.

I really like the rust colour. Yeah I know it IS rust but I like the rust colour of the rust...LOL

Forgot to say that #3 is quite pleasing, to me anyway.

I like the gate close-ups best - the cluttered background gets thrown out of focus, and there's something really pleasing about rusted things (at least to me!). The first one intrigues me - I'd love to see the window shot straight on, to show the beautiful symmetry and stonework, with the sky/trees/whatever showing through the window. The metal girder in the forground is a bit jarring, everything else is stone or wood and it just seems out of place (even though it isn't). It looks like a fun and interesting subject, I look forward to seeing what you get if you go back!
