Any suggestions on how to improve the shot?

I like it, good shot. I would crop out the cloud at the top, it's a bit distracting. Maybe you could tone down the sun flare a little and there is mark in the top right hand quadrant that you can get rid of in PP. Maybe crop a little off the right hand side as well.

J'aime beaucoup cette photo et la maitrise de la lumière. Magnifique contre jour, toujours aussi difficile à gérer. Bravo.
dommage pour la laisse du chien mais sinon c'est parfait.

I love this picture and mastery of light. Magnificent against day, always so difficult to manage. Bravo.
damage to the leash of a dog but otherwise it's perfect.

Thanks for the kind words guys, and thanks for the attention to detail Damn Brit....

Fixed the sensor blob (don't know how I missed that one) and cropped the top cloud. I didn't want to take too much off the right side because I like the puppy in the centre of the frame, and the balance between the dark sand at the bottom. Also got off my lazy butt and removed the leash. Merci Kaloo! J'espère que mes efforts avec la laisse sont d'accord

!

Very nice! I started at the top, made a few notes in my head for this post, and then scrolled down to see that you had already addressed them.
