What a diverse state.
Semi-arid desert amongst thriving fauna and forest lands.
Amazing.

There is a lot of brown along with the yellow, so it takes away from the striking yellow colour you're trying to convey. I also wonder how it would have looked with the foreground (the leaves on the treetops) lit up a bit with a flash or reflector.

Thanks for the comments. Brightening up the foreground leaves would have been an interesting experiment! I'll have to go back!!

Utah is indeed a diverse state! On the way home to Arizona we drove route 12 through Dixie past Bryce Canyon out to Route 89, what an amazing and changing landscape! Highly recommended!!

Ole, this is a classic example of trying to combine a group of elements that don't always play well together. In fact it can be tough to pull it off. I think you did well, taking all of this into consideration!

I agree about foreground Aspens being a bit dark due to shadows, but it's by no means an issue with the overall image. One option would be to use a larger aperture, since it can allow a bit more light reflectivity on the tree trunks that are in shadow, since the Aspens' trunks are very bright compared to most tree trunks. Instead of F/8, try F/7.1 @ 1/180 sec. ...

Another option is to consider using a GND filter on the skies, but that's another tough spot to deal with since a lot of experimentation would be needed.

Regards,
Marc

Nice shot Ole. The aspens weren't quite at their peak when we were there and I hated to have missed them. Personnally, I think the entire state of Utah should be a national park. There just aren't enough gigabites in the world to contain all the photographic possibilities.
