A month ago, I had posted about a problem I was experiencing with Lightroom; one that continues to surface, from time to time. I import photos, only to find that they can only be viewed as thumbnails. Consequently, I have to import into ACDsee Pro, in order to get some PP done on the photos. I love Lightroom - when it is working right, but ithas gotten to the place where I can't depend on it to function properly. Is anyone else being troubled by the periodical plaguing that I have described above?
I have imported many thousands of photos in Lightroom, jpeg, raw (both types) and raw + jpg. There has been no such problem ever.
The only thing that I've ran into is that the link between raw+jpg photos is lost when moving a directory in Library mode. I've used version 1.2 and upgraded to 1.3.
What is your LR version?
Camera settings of your file formats?
First make sure your not using a trial version. If your not than check your version of Camera RAW file. to do this go to computer/program files/common files/adobe/ plug in/ light room/file format/camera raw right click and go to properties click properties and check the version and when it was last updated. If it is an older version go to Adobe light room and get the updates. this should take care of the problem Or you could try updates in the tools menu and see if that works. either way it sounds like a patch hasn't been updated for your program.

Yes - I have had the same problem. Last summer I shot about 2000 frames in Tanzania (all compressed .PEF on my K10D), and Lightroom v1.1 would not import about 5 of them. They were all imported fine with either the Pentax software or GraphicConverter (a Mac program).
I read elsewhere that this was a known bug (but I forget where I read this - likely dpreview).

Hi there, PT.
First, let me say that this is not a trial version. I bought this program straight-out, some months back. I also tried to do as you suggested, but could get no further than the "Adobe" folder - as there was no "Plugin" sub folder. I have the latest version of the program, and (believe it or not) it is working fine, now. I did absolutely nothing different, after deciding to just try it one more time. No problem at all. But, then again, this issue (as mentioned before) has a tendency to just pop up, from time to time.

Tom,
Well that about explains it then, and I kinda figured that it had to be something on that order. That's why I wondered if anyone else had undergone what I spoke of. I hope that Adobe addresses this issue. Thanks.
I suggest you get the update - it is a free update.

I apologize for not explaining myself better, before. When I earlier stated that I have the latest version of the program, I was meaning that I do have the latest update. Thanks anyway, though.
Maybe Your image files exceed 16MB in size? Some time ago I had similar experience and the images which did not open were slightly over 16MB (PEF ones, DNG has no size limit IMHO). Converted them to DNG- and voila- all set :-)
