Incorrect Lens details in Lightroom

Hi,

I'm using a Sig 17-70 lense and in the Lightroom picture tag details it's saying I'm using a Tamron 35-90. It's not a big issue but for some reason it bothers me. How do you go about correcting this?

Drives me nuts too!

The exif file reads the same as you with the addition of "and various Sigma models." I would think this is a function of the camera software. What camera and what version software are you using?

I think the answer will including importing and doing a bulk metadata change to the right lens.

Ooooh so I'm a senior member now.

I'm sure you can batch change the metadata of a bunch of files in Lightroom, not sure if this includes lens model. What version of LR are you running there?

Answer in LR 2b

Library/rename photo select edit, then metadata/ dimensions. Change dimensions to lens name, type in new lens name and bingo.

If you have bunch of images selected, LR will apply just that change to those images. Neat.

Answer found on excellent LR training website

Thanks Dale, but I'm still not having any success. I can add the sigma 17-70 text, but it still has tamron 35-90 and various sigma models before it. I'm using LR 1.4. I'll get some sleep and have another crack at it tmw.

Cheers

I have had a similar experience with Lightroom. My Sigma 50/2.8 Macro shows as Pentax-FA 50/2.8 Macro(!). I don't know if this is one lens attempting to spoof another or something else. My daughter's Tokina 19-35 shows up as something else as well, thought I cannot remember which lens.

What I suspect is that Pentax probably supplies Adobe with a table that gives the mapping of the lens model/brand to the raw exif data. There is probably some potential for duplication between lens manufacturers.

Can't seem to delete the incorrect lens data, but at least I can add the correct sigma data at the end...guess I'll have to live with that.
Thanks for your help

What would be interesting to see would be same lens on different bodies..

Any K20 owners out there?

Would you believe I have just posted this exact same question in two other forums. Same camera and same lens as Daz and comes up with same Tamron 35-90mm. But when I used the Sigma 30mm f1.4 it named my images correctly. I am using the trial version LR1.4 as well. If I get any responses in the other forums I will let you guys know.

Ingi,

Did you get any responses regarding the incorrect lens metadata?

Daz,
The only suggestion I received is that the metadata needs to be changed with an exif tool. Which is a free download. I havent tried it yet because I dont know how. Something I did notice though is that when I downloaded the upgrade to the Pentax browser and lab, the exif data now reflects the correct lens for the pentax 55-300. Which before came up as unknown lens. So maybe the problem can be fixed with an update, but from whom I dont know. Im not sure how lightroom recognises the lens used to start with. Probably from Pentax because the pentax browser dosent recognise the sigma either.

Well that's interesting. Have you tried the Sigi 17-70 yet to see if the upgrade fixed that?

Thanks Ingrid, saw your question over on Lightroom forums. Looks like we are out of luck. I've just taken to adding the Sigi details in LR keywords.
