I am trying to work more in RAW and have more options regarding color, WB and exposure.
can someone explain me the routine to work with RAWs and how to convert them to JPEGs in batches? Basically i want to take pics in RAW, convert them all outside the camera, and if required, touch up a picture or two as necessary.
I am able to touch up and control WB, exposure, etc... but I am having trouble speeding up the routine process: get DNGs to JPEGs in batch and with better quality than Pentx JPEGs.
Any tips on the routine work?
Also, can someone share a nice preset to be applied to pictures coming out of the K10D?
Why do you need to make jpegs of all the images? The whole point of apps like Lightroom is to make working with RAW files as easy as working with jpegs. You should only need to make jpegs of the ones you are going to export to the web or send to another computer (family, friends, print lab, etc). If you export to work with an image in Photoshop (or similar) you should send it as a tiff (or similar), not a jpeg.
Well, one instance that I've run into:
Some good friends of mine who are musicians have been recording a cd to take around to club owners and I've been there to take photos of the proceedings. Earlier this evening I finished touching up a batch of a hundred raw photos. My friends have no use for the dngs, they don't have a program to open them so I converted them to jpegs and burnt them to a disk, in Lightroom.
BB, in the Library module, grid view, choose all the photos you want to convert. Then click on Export. You will then get the options on where to export them to, what kind of files you want to convert to, colorspace, etc, etc. Then at the bottom you can choose to burn them to disk if you want. You HAVE to be in the Library module in the grid view to do the batch! Same as if you want to apply keywords to a bunch of photos at the same time, if you're in loupe view it will only apply the keywords to the photo in the loupe view, but if you're in grid view and choose multiple files it will make the changes to all the chosen files.
I hope this helps, it took me awhile to get the hang of how Lightroom works.
It never even crossed my mind to store all my pics in RAW format. Now that you mentioned, I do see professionals keeping it in RAW for future edits... but in my case I dont even think it is an option: file size and speed for access.

Thanks for the tips! It is a little complicated at once but now it seems like the program was very well developed!
But now I dont know which preset to apply! I want to convert to JPEGs in a regular preset that will give me a bit more life/sharpness than the Pentax PRIME in the K10D...
