How to take photos for printing purpose?

Hello,

I would like to know which image format to take (using my k20 camera) for printing purpose. I know that usually .jpg files are used for web but not for high quality printing purpose.

I'm thinking to take .raw images then to save them as .tiff files after editing in photoshop so that I can print them.

What do you think? Thank you for your help.

That would generally be a good idea, although I don't think the untrained eye can see the difference between a print made out of a jpg or tiff file.

It's more important to calibrate your monitor, though.

I would assume .TIFF files would be the most appropriate, but I have no experience with personal printing of digital files. I do know that .JPG properly converted from a .TIFF or other, wouldn't lose any noticeable quality. you would only have quality loss from .JPG from the camera itself.

most people don't realize that you can convert .JPG with almost no compression. I cant really tell any major difference between the ProPhoto 16bit .TIFF file straight from lightroom and the SRGB 8bit .JPG file I save in photoshop for web sharing.
