Dynamic Photo HDR & Photo Elements Combo

I am interested in HDR and photo editing. I do not have the funds for PS. Would Dynamic Photo HDR & Photo Elements be a good combo? Anyone actually using this combo? I would appreciate your feedback.

I have Photoshop Elements 6. It is good. It does not have masking, however. As for HDR, I have never used it.

Has anyone tried GIMP? Does it accept RAW images?

Dynamic photo HDR is a great HDR program. I like it much moe than photomatix. Mostly due to the control options and the pin warping to try and rescue less than perfect source material. Also, even in high contrast tonemapping modes, the ammount of haloing you get aorund things like trees in front of sky seem to be more controlable and less severe using dynamic photo hdr.

Also the price is right.

I also quite liked Dynamic photo HDR but it really lacks in aligning hand held images compared to Photomatix. But maybe my hands are just shaking in a Photomatixy way...

GIMP will accept RAW images if you download Ucraw or dcraw as a plugin (at least, in Linux). In other words, when you click on a RAW file, GIMP will first open the image in Ucraw then save it from there as a jpeg or tiff. I'm not sure if Ucraw is available for Windows or Mac. I doubt this combo would suit what you want to do.

Actually many of the things missing from photoshop you can still do in elements by using plugins. There is a mask plugin for free for ps elements so if thats a requirement you won't miss it at all.
