Do you go local or use someplace online? Someone recommended MPIX, though I'm sure not all printing places are not built equally. How about places like CVS/Walgreens, Wal-Mart, or Ritz Camera?
their regular price is low enough to try them. use the same image and compare them.. also send off to a lab and see what you get.. i've used wally world once giving them a 40-70meg shot and their printer would only print half of the image correctly. never found out the problem.
printing at home a 13x19'' will cost $4-5 a pop but you're getting instant access and have more control on the finished product.. if you don't refill yourself it can get costly real fast. i know i get 8 refills for all 8 colors for $47 compared to canon's cost of $800..
$4-5 a pop!!! I'm not sure it is that expensive, though I haven't done the math myself. I have an Epson R1800 and I enjoy the process... yeah... I enjoy the process.
With outside services, if they apply their own auto everything what you get back isn't what you sent them. I haven't tried them, but from everything I see Adorama Pix seems to be a good outfit as well.
nesster,
canon glossy ll is $40 for twenty sheets of 13x19''
red river tested a number of printers and says mine uses about $1.98 IIRC.
from refilling mine i had already thought the number was right around there..
i'm doing 13x19 enlargements, mat and hinge them and placed in a sleeve. that's about 8.50 per.. fry's ran the gloosy plus ll on sale for 75% off and i stocked up. now i've got 50¢ paper and i figure ink cost about the same so $1-2 each.
i also enjoy printing. done right it's the best way.
I am a real fan of Adorama and if you keep your eyes open the sales are unbelievable. I just got 10-16 X 20 prints back from them today and they are great. Total cost including shipping was $74.08.
They have another sale just starting on 11 X 14 prints at $1.99 each. I'm in the process right now uploading a bunch of files. Several months ago I ordered about 20 prints and 3 of them were out of balance on color. I called them and they replaced them at N/C.
I have used Adorama and Ritz for print processing. Both do a good job. I would stay away from Walmart. Every time I would get my images printed there, they would come out blue or under-exposed.
