soft proofing with the gimp

hi all

i'm trying to do a book print with the blurb (Make your own book with Blurb) software, and had some issues previously with the 7x7 version which doesn't have a colour profile
i am now looking at the 10x8 version which they say uses the hp indigo 5000 printer
i downloaded the colour profile for that from Bonsai Photography - Home
i have a calibrated monitor (spyder2express)

i'm finding that about 8 or 9 out of 10 times after going to view > display filters > add color proof (downloaded hp profile), the picture looks very dull, with reduced contrast, and lighter

i can increase contrast only so much in the gimp

does anyone know what the problem is, is it that the gimp is unable to handle cmyk profiles for soft proofing? or something else?

any advice
dave

I don't know, but you could look here - GNU Image Manipulation Program
