New ufraw (.14) and gimp (2.6.1) releases available

These are relatively new releases of these two open source apps, and I upgraded from ufraw .13 and gimp 2.4.7... The old config was working normally, and the new releases work fine independtly, but the export from ufraw to gimp is now broken with the newer versions on my Vista64 load.. Just thought I'd mention it in case anybody is thinking of upgrading.. Could just be me, but I can't make it work, and now have to redo all my shortcuts in Gimp because I tried a full uninstall... I reported it to the ufraw developer so if I get a response I'll try to remember to post it here....

Thanks for the heads up... I use UFRaw and GIMP for most of my PP and have been watching the GIMP group on flickr for updated scripts.

Looks like I'll wait just a bit longer before making the new install.

Developer came back fast with the fix:

"You need to open the "Options" window and change the "Remote Gimp command"
from "gimp-win-remote gimp-2.4.exe" to "gimp-2.6.exe".
"

I had tried changing it to "gimp-win-remote gimp-2.6.exe" but that didn't work, but indeed, changing it to "gimp-2.6.exe" did the trick...

I have Gimp 2.61, but can't it doesn't read PEF files. Do I have to use UFRAW separately from Gimp?

GIMP by itself won't open the PEF's. You need to have UFRAW present as well. You can either open the PEF files in standalone UFRAW, process and save them as JPG, then open them in GIMP or, if UFRAW was compiled with the GIMP plugin, GIMP should be able to open them itself in UFRAW. Then, when you've processed in UFRAW, it will pass the image directly to GIMP to be further processed/saved. I hope that makes sense! Also, previous versions of UFRAW didn't support the K20D's PEF files. I don't know for sure about your K200D, but getting the new UFRAW version wouldn't be a bad idea either way.

I sent the UFRAW/DCRAW developer a K200D PEF a while back because I was having the same problem with UFRAW. I've since moved on to Lightroom 2 and haven't gone back to see if the latest update fixed the problem. I may do that this weekend. I still feel more comfortable using GIMP for final tweaks as opposed to CS3.

How do you get the version that has been compiled with Gimp as a plugin? I spent a lot of time on that site trying to find or figure it out, but didn't have any luck.
Thanks in advance!

No, you install GIMP & then you install UFRAW.

Then either:

1. Start UFRAW & configure the GIMP start button in UFRAW so that it will invoke GIMP and pass the converted RAW file to it after you've finished fiddling.

2. Or start GIMP & when you load the RAW file, UFRAW is automatically invoked. Again you fiddle around adjusting the file in UFRAW. The GIMP start button is not available (or needed) when UFRAW is run this way. When you finish fiddling and process the file, GIMP then loads it.

Dan.

Hello,

I just upgraded to Gimp 2.6.2 and UFRaw 0.14.1, then downgraded back to Gimp 2.4.7 because of considerable slow down with the newest version of Gimp.
Anyone noticed this ?

Best regards
