Dell or Acer laptop ?

slightly off topic but this is about post processing

am about to treat myself to a new laptop and its down to an Acer 8920G - 18.4" screen with 1920x1080 resolution or Dell Studio with 17" 1368x768 resolution 'Truelife'

both the screens seem to have their advantages based on a few minutes in John Lewis's and PCWorld- I am sorely tempted by the big Acer as there is soooo much space to edit but cant see them side by side and cant get any time to calibrate/play. WLED is coming along so its also tempting to wait just a little longer for the next screen technology

As the laptop screen will have to be my primary edit route for a year or two until I can justify a proper photo editing monitor - and its a big purchase (heck this is a DA*50-135, new tripod and battery grip kind of cost)

So which is going to give me the the best screen for editing ? or is there a better choice out there ? (if better choice exists it needs to be cheapish and have a ATI3650 or better to let me play Flight Sim too - so Apple is a non starter alas)

Spend less on the laptop and get a decent monitor as well.

Laptop screens tend to be very low performormers even on Macs.

Get a decent external LCD (and count it in your budget) is definitively a good advice, if carefully chosen, LCD panels can fit to photographer needs.

I totally agree with the two posts above.

Also, I have had luck with various Acer hardware over the past 10-12 years...I wouldn't hesitate at all with them.
