Editing EXIF lens data

The Takumar lens discussion thread prompted me to get out some of my old M42 lenses, to try on my *istD and K20D.

The results were encouraging, at least as far as the SMC 2.5/135 and SMC Macro 4/100 were concerned. Some exposure compensation is clearly warranted, in both cases.

However, initial viewing in CS3 Bridge revealed, once more, the problem of all M42 lenses and a great many K-mount lenses not providing any focal length and aperture information in the EXIF camera data fields.

A search through the forum posts only reveals frustration at trying to edit lens data, as all suggestions I could find (there may have been some I missed, of course) allowed viewing and limited editing of EXIF data, excluding camera data.

I use a MacBook, which runs both Mac OS X and Windows XP (so I'm neutral on the OS argument, and it isn't relevant here). Can anyone advise, please?
