Aliasing on Resize

Something I've paid particular attention to lately is some aliasing on edges and lines in some of my photos I post here and other places. This happens only after resizing (resampling) of the image to something smaller for web publishing. I use either Cubic or Lanczos3 in GIMP on the original from the K20D which is 3104x4672 pixels. I usually reduce to something around 1024 wide in LS.

I don't have Adobe PS, so I don't know if it's GIMP or not. What I see is not terribly noticeable, and may be something we have to live with in the digital world, however I am somewhat new (abt 6 months) to digital photography, so I could be ignorant of the unavoidable defect.

Are there any tips out there to help me avoid this, or at least reduce it to a greater extent without degrading the sharpness of the image or inducing other side effects?

Thanks.
