RSE 2006, DNG and PEF

I got a k100d Sup. and am trying to find a way to process my photos..

I have downloaded rawshooter essentials(RSE) 2006 but it doesn't seem to support PEFs.. Donwloaded adobe DNG converter and converted to DNGs but still RSE can not see the DNG files..

am i doing something wrong?
Is there a freeware better than RSE 2006 out there..that maybe detects PEFs..

The Pentax software works just fine, if you don't mind the old-fashioned approach of having to convert each file to JPEG or TIFF rather than modern approach of working with your originals. Also, the GIMP should work, too, with the same caveat - very old-school.

Aside from those, getting to the realm of more modern applications, I know Picasa handles K100D just fine, but it isn't really a RAW processing program at all - it actually converts internally to JPEG and *then* applies your processing. So in that respect, it's not really any better than just shooting JPEG in the first place. I think most of the other good modern RAW processing applications are commercial applications. Not all are terribly expensive - Photoshop Elements and ACDSee Pro both around $100, Lightroom can be had for that if you qualify for the educational discount.

How about "Save as DNG" in Pentax Photo Browser?
