Nothing new to report over here, but I'd like to express my support for applications already mentioned here. I use all of them on a regular basis:

XNView, Raw Therapee, Hugin and Virtual Photographer are incredibly useful tools.

I haven't found my perfect setup yet, but I've recently been playing with the free version of Lightbox Image Editor. It's been working quite well for me so far.

GIMP is a perfect example of why us programmers should never design user interfaces.

PhotoAcute is not Freeware! I submitted a lens for the lens profile DA 35 ltd 2 weeks ago and haven't heard anything back as far as obtaining a complimentary copy. I wasn't trying to stiff you.

Here's Falconeye's fly comparisons from the DOF thread. However, PhotoAcute isn't Freeware.

First attachment: Helicon
Second attachment: PhotoAcute Attached Images

Edit: Here is the link provided by Falconeye from the DOF thread. While it is not FreeWare, it sells for $49 for standared and $119 for Professional unless you can get a complimentary copy for agreeing to submit a lens profile. http://www.photoacute.com/

RAW PHOTO PROCESSOR.
In lieu of upgrading to Adobe Creative Suite CS4 to make my system compatible with later model Nikons and Canons, I use this app. It's enough to allow me to make a straight TIF copy of the RAW file - no modifications in the app (although I can if I want to) - then do all PP work in Photoshop.

Yeah, you're absolutely right. I already forgot why I didn't pay

I consider PhotoAcute to be underrated. It can do a lot of things and doubling the resolution from a burst of images is my favorite

I just got the approval to submit a profile for the DA 35mm ltd on the K20d. I'm looking forward to evaluating this software!

freeware used and photomontage/collage

The freeware I use:
XNVIEW
and more recently I discovered a little gem for photomontage called:
shape collage

great to use for quick montage with easy and various controls.
End result can be save in jpg or you can save in photoshop psd with all layers....

Great for making posters of several images quickly (and very good looking.)

it is also mac and linux friendly...

I find it useful when you end up with too many pictures of one subject (like a series of portrait)

have a try, have fun, and keep shooting
