Photoshop/LR2 Classes?

here's my challenge...
I have photoshop cs3, elements 6, LR2 (and aperture and iPhoto lol)

So i have choices, and i am decent with the basics, cropping, minor adjustments etc

what I want to do is see about taking some small course (nothing major, a couple hours to give me a crash course or whet the apetite). wondering if there is such a thing in NYC, or if I might even be better off finding videos online (since I am now less frequently in NYC)

I have books, but i think having someone to be observed, either in person or the videos, so i can learn some more creative things, like layering and such. right now, i try and generally fail, get frustrated and fall back to the auto fix functions in the apps...which are OK, but not great....

any recommendations? I am thinking videos are probably the way to go....

thanks

There are a couple of good instructional books that are project based. Images are provided so you can duplicate what they have done in the book. My variation on that was to pick one of my own pictures that was similar to those used in the book and complete the project that way. The one I have is called 'Elements 6 Maximum Performance'.
