There are quite a few on the market, aside from recommendations, if you have a large bookstore near you, Barnes & Noble for example, take yourself a coffee and spend a while going through the selection. I find that's the best way to pick one that works for me.
I am looking for same. Just got Elements 7 also. Quite a bit differert than V.5. I have ran into a few difficulties already.
Resize: it gives me quite a few options to choose ( in. mm, cm. pisca, what ever that is, ect.. but not pixels size.
It is not letting me layer either so I don't know what the heck is happening.
I most deffinately need some help!
I strongly recommend the Missing Manual series. There's an edition available for each version of PS and PSE. The PSE 7 edition is available at Amazon here. You can preview part of the book at that link, too.
I use PSE 6 for Mac and the Missing Manual for it is fantastic. The author, Barbara Brundage, is well regarded PS expert and does an excellent job walking you through the common and uncommon tasks.
Just a quick question before I can purchase a book
When I resized in Elements 5 the options were in either pixel or inches. In elements 7, pixels is not an option. I get everything else but. Is there a way to change the options?
Edit: Okay, I just needed to check resample to enable use of pixel dimensions in order to change that. The other set is for document size. which is something new.
But I am still having problems with layering. It seems like layers is completely disabled.
I am considering purchasing PSE 7, but I don't know whether it's appropriate for me, since I really have done very little editing. I have used Picasa 3 a bit and I like it so far. How do people feel about the additional benefits of PSE 7 over Picasa?

If you find yourself wishing that you could do more (or better) editing than what Picasa (or any basic photo program) allows, or if you want to learn more about editing in Photoshop, then PSE is an excellent and affordable option. I've read many places that it can do most everything the average amateur & advanced amateur photographer needs to do and then a bit more. Plus, it's less than 1/6th the price of PS. However, if you don't feel constrained by Picasa, then it's probably not worth the money to you. If you want to work in RAW, then I think it's a good investment (Picasa's RAW conversion leaves many with much to be desired). I'm no expert in PSE and am just getting my feet wet in its functionality.
Remember, you can use Picasa to organize your collection while using PSE for the edits, if you desire.
I am a bit lost myself... picasa 3 is very easy, but PSE looks to be a real tool. My library has the Missing Manual for PSE 6 and it is a good book, so I am going to order the PSE 7 version.
But take a look at this link from Adobe... It helped me with some questions...
I have always liked the Scott Kelby books on Elements. They are basic to intermediate in level, but depending on what you are looking for, they may suffice. I own the one for Elements 5.0, so I can't really comment on the Element 7.0 book by him.
Steve, or anyone else who might know... I understand PSE7 requires 2.0 ghz processor speed. My processor is 1.9... will I have a problem running PSE7?
My processor is an Athlon X2 Dual Core QL-60 1.9 Ghz
I have 3 GB of Ram and it's a 32-bit system.
I don't know first-hand, but this thread at cnet.com shows someone using PSE7 on a 1.79 GHz AMD Turion notebook processor, this review used PSE7 on a 1.66 GHz Core Duo processor (not even Core 2 Duo), and this guy runs PSE7 "just fine" on a 1.8 GHz dual core notebook processor with 3 GB of RAM & Vista. It sounds to me like your system will run it just fine.
