Thi sis by far and away the most bewildering software i have ever used. it is exactly what i need but I JUST CANNOT FIGURE IT OUT.
No matter what i do it keeps applying sharpening to images as a default, FFS why can i not turn it off?????????? I don't want to turn off the entire DETAIL tab as i want NR on import but STOP FARKING SHARPENING YOU PUTTS!
You have to sign up by filling in your e-mail info (spam free) and they will send you a download link. I use the presets for all of my B&W conversions and about half of my images. There are 140 presets in all.
The only Presets I use most often is Landscape sharpening, but only as a starting point. I also often use Auto Tone, but only as a starting point again. I also use the White Balance picker a good deal if there's something white in my shot. After that, every image is custom processed. If there's a series of photos in the same conditions, I'll copy the settings and paste it to the shots and re-balance exposure. Probably why it takes me forever and I have thousands of RAWs to go thru...

Don't worry Alfisti. You're not alone. I'm still trying to figure it out too .
But then maybe you should use presets more like me to avoid more confusion.
The free downloads for Lightroom and ACR are at the bottom of this page: onOne Software - Downloads

Maxwell (or Alan? sorry I don't know which one) I saw that one too but couldn't decide to download it (spam fear). I was a little bit worried for having to give email.
Now that you've used it. I might give it a try. Thanks.
Herman and Alan: thanks for the links. Checking them out.
You're welcome, Venturi. Hopefully there will be more people sharing their preset links.

Hehehe..this is what I used to do too before until I'm stuck with hundreds of unprocessed RAW photos . Now I use more of presets since it's really shorten my workflow.

Give this a try and see if it works for you. In the develop module on the detail tab, set the sharpening amount to zero. Make any other changes that you want to be default. Then go to Develop menu at the top and pick "Set Default Settings" from the drop down list. Then pick "Update to current settings".
You should use a photo that you just imported and haven't done any manual adjustments. You do have the option of resetting to the Adobe default if you don't like what you did.
Slick's got it right. You can set the default develop settings this way, and change sharpening to none.
Yeah I figure dthat out lastnight on my own, thatnks though. i think I find it tough as I have used ACr for years and LR really is just ACR with better file management but they have gone and changed the entire fabric of the settings options so whilst it looks the same it's totally diferent in use. In ACR it just retained your last value which was so freakin simple to use.
