Espon Twain vs Silverfast

Recently I plugged my 5 year old Epson 2450 Photo back in to scan in my own developed film. I installed just the twain drivers into XP and used GiMP; File > Create > Scanner. Today while cleaning up I found the original Epson CD. It has a copy of SilverFast SE (old version) so I thought why not try it. Well, the difference is very noticeable.

The first image is via GiMP, the second is via SilverFast. No Auto correction was used on either photo while scanning. Though I did specify Fuji 800 film in SilverFast. The only PP was sharpening, USM 0.7 at 100%.

which one do you like better?
The second one seems a bit too much greenish.

I prefer the 1st one as the 2nd is more greenish from my view.

I do agree with the previous posters. However, I'd add that although the 1st isn't too green I think it is, too red. So, I'd say they both "missed", which really doesn't surprise me at all. When scanning I rarely do not have to do color balancing in post.

If you can scan from inside Gimp and that's where you'll be editing anyway I'd think that was the most elegant solution.

Regards,
Mike

I agree, too red in one, too green in the other. I use SilkPix to edit and GiMP to clone or heal.
