Pentax photo laboratory and Windows XP processor affinity

When I use PPL in custom processing mode, and have the preview and 'enlarge area' window open, it is extremely slow when changing levels for example.
I am running an AMD Athlon64 X2 4200, dual core processor.

When I do this, with the windows task manager open on the 'performance' tab, then during the PPL 'busy' time, both cpu cores are 100% used for about 30 to 60 seconds, and half of that cpu time is kernel time.
Also during this 'busy' time, my windows user interface is almost dead.

When I then go to the windows task manager 'processes' tab, and point my mouse at 'PPHLAB03.exe', right mouse button -> set affinity, and select only CPU 0, then the same PPL actions go 3 to 6 times faster, and my windows user interface stays responsive.

Is there something wrong with my system, or with PPL ?

Can someone with an equivalent system try the same ?
