Raw Therapee?

Hello, I've been trying to get a pentax-like curve and colours with Raw Therapee, and I guess I am quite successful, but has anyone nailed it?

I've read here about that being possible with Ufraw, but I can't get a Bibble Pentax profile to try.

Does everyone here who uses raw formats just use an application they're comfortable with and don't really worry about the colours not being just like the original ones from a Pentax-like raw->jpeg convert?

Oh and, are the original Pentax colours the most natural/real looking, or can Raw Therapee conquer that in a different way without trying to imitate?

Thanks for the answers,
— Nanthiel

(p.s. I'm on Linux, so no Lightroom / Aperture for me; the original Pentax software works, but I don't like it and it's buggy on Wine)

For me, Bibble crashed a ton, and Picassa wasn't featured enough. I was thrilled to find RawTherapee, but I never bothered to try and match the in camera curves. What's really the benefit of doing that?

i don't bother with matching either. i use ufraw, and i like the output, i usually only need to do little adjustments. i also tried digikam, too much of a behemot for my taste, but if you like that kind of all-in-one app, you might want to give it a try (very different output from ufraw, by default)

you can see what my output looks like from ufraw here:

hope this helps. have fun

Thanks for the replies. But I don't have an answer yet. =(

Could anyone please point me in a direction to the Pentax3 profile, please? =)

Camera files for Bibble work in rawtherapee... if that's what you need.
rawtherapee.com :: View topic - new Bibble5 camera profiles are usable in RT
Unfortunately I only see Pentax1

very interesting, jeff.

i downloaded the profiles packed by the kind users there, and was playing around (ufraw). my quick observations:

the pentax1 profile seems very "efficient", it seems to bring out a lot of shadow detail, the histogram shows it as well. the saturation apparently goes down, and the contrast too, that's good, i can tweak that after. the preview i get with that profile is nowhere near the jpeg embedded by the camera in the raw file.

i played with other profiles as well, they are mostly.. very funky , (read: not much use).

the ufraw default, "colormatrix", is amazing, in that it is very close to the camera jpeg, with the one exception that it looks considerably darker (easily fixed), i have no idea how it works, but it still seems to me it works bloody well . perhaps that's the reason i forgot about input profiles finally (i was in the same situation as nanthiel some time ago)

hope this helps

edit: i dug around for some more info, this thread came up which might help nanthiel with some insight on RT specifically (gabor, the main developer, gives some very interesting explanations):
