The newest version of Lightroom allows for localized edits, so finally we can do dodging, burning, selective color - even adding colors selectively. It's still nothing like the layers in Photoshop, but I've been impressed with what can be done with it:
Lightroom is the first post processing program I use, and often the only. Only for model photography will I sometimes use Photoshop (mostly for retouching).

With the spot removal and the skin smoothing brush, unless I screwed up pretty big (bad background, need to replace a color, want to completely reshape something), I can usually bang a model session straight out of LR.
I just remember when I got Lightroom, I was an avid Photoshop user. At first I only used Lightroom as an organizational tool, and it wasn't until later that I realized the scope of the edits you can make in it. It really is much more than just a RAW converter.

You said that right!
There is very little that we need to visit CS4 for.
The lightroom metaphor confused me for a while until I broke the rule of a lifetime ... and read the manual AND the tutorials, esp as regards, the library mode.

Localized dodge, burn, selective color, etc? Where? Are you referring to LR 2.4? Just installed last night, don't see any tools like this in the develop module.
Screen cap, if so, please? Thanks!
EDIT: Ahh, I know what you're talking about, the Adjustment brush. Been in there since LR 2.0. Righto- yep, this is a great tool set, I have to agree! Only thing I would DIE for in LR (after having lived the last 10 years working in PS) is to have a lasso select toolset as in PS, with the ability to feather, etc.
But LR is where I do 99 post on my images- only use PS as others- for complex clone stamps, etc, and background removal/masking.
