K20D resolution and 30" x 45" canvas print

All,

Just to say I got a 30" x 45" canvas print of one of my landscape pictures and it's very good indeed.

If anyone is wondering how good the K20D is for those size of prints, it is tremendous!

Great stuff.
I'm not surprised...
With 14Mp, and lowish dpi needed for material like canvas, you can get quite sharp images blown up to monstrous proportions.
Looking forward to doing this myself soon...

Yes, please show us a picture. One of the reasons I got into photography was so I could decorate my place with my own prints.

Great to know. I just found a guy here in Toronto that prints to canvas for pretty cheap, so I'm planning on having a few done to take to the local market.

How are you liking the 17-70? I got a bad copy of the *16-50 and I'm contemplating switching over to that one for the bit of extra reach.

Sorry all for the late reply, I've been away on holiday - I will upload a photo tonight of what it looks like.

The 17-70mm is great, I love it. It works very well as a landscape lens and as a walkabout lens.

Ok, here is a quick and dirty picture of it hanging on the wall (it looks squint, but it's not):

And this was the image I got printed (resized obviously!):

Big G,

thank you very much for the inspiration, never thought to much about canvas.

Actually, one of the reasons i had for upgrading to the K20 from a K10 was to hopefully be able to print larger prints better.

So far, i've printed one to 12" by 36" and was extremely happy at the resolution.

Well done Big G.
I've done a couple of 24"x36" prints on photo paper using PS's enlargement interpolation and even then I'm hard pressed to find pixelation evident to the naked eye.

Format, what type of company and typical cost?

Nice idea, I am interested in knowing, what format did they want, jpg: tiff NG: etc. What type of company would do this specialised printing and what is a typical cost. thanks.

I didn't use a professional place, I used Bonusprint as they were doing 30% off canvases - Digital photo printing online from 5p- FREE online photo albums, share your photos online - cost £100.

They didn't accept a TIFF image from me, so it had to be a JPEG in sRGB format. If I had used a TIFF, I think the result would have been even better.
