help with stitching images and putting borders between (aka: collage?)

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a competent way to do what terribly worded title of this thread describes. Here's a picture to give a better idea of what I'm talking about:

I've been using picasa to make these but I want to find something with more customization. Picasa gives certain aspect ratios and I always have to crop my images to make it work. I'm looking for something that would be as intuitive as picasa but with more customization.

This is the first time I've had to venture outside my safe, neophyte world of adobe lightroom :P.

When you get your K-7 you should be able to use the in camera filters (remember the retro filter that puts an old school white border round them?) Then you can just use layers to put them together in PS.
Would that do it for you?

Not really what I had in mind Gary. I'm just looking for something similar to the collage maker in picasa, a really quick way to throw a few images together with a black background between them. I feel that it is something that should exist, you know? If not, someone make it :P! I'm photoshop stupid and thought I'd ask if there would be an easy way to do this before having to resort to PS.

Oh I get you now. I'm more Photoshop stupid than you but as long as you work out the dimensions, you should be able to create and save a black background in PS and then layer the images on to it in whatever way you like.

What would be really slick is if there were some sort of CS plugin that would give you the look of CoolIris.

I haven't used this, but its free and looks like it will allow you better manipulation at the cost of xtra work:

I have a copy of Corel paint Shop Pro X. I haven't used it since I got my copy of CS4 Extended. But what I have gone back and used on occasion is Corel Photo Album 6. It is part of Pro X but launches like a seperate program like Adobe Bridge does with CS4.

It has a great collage maker that I think you may be looking for. Lots of templates and it's easy to click and drag your shots onto the template, resize them and just generally mess around til you get the look you want. I have taken the jpeg, imported it to CS4 and changed the color of the borders with no problem.

Either CS4 doesn't have the same feature or I haven't found it yet.

Corel Photo album has lots of other features too, But that's the one I use most.
