The Adobe web site states;

The Camera Raw 4.6 plug-in is not compatible with versions of Photoshop earlier than Photoshop CS3 or versions of Photoshop Elements earlier than Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Windows and Photoshop Elements 4.01 for Mac.

So I guess thats a no go.

No you can't upgrade the Camera Raw engine if you're still using CS2.
You will need to upgrade to the latest version of Photoshop. It is currently ACR 5.4 for CS4.

I just installed CS2, and it opens my K10D raw files no problem. Not sure if it will handle K20D files though...

There is no way that the older versions can allow you to use the refinements of CS4 or LR2. Low budget approach is to buy current Photoshop Elements.
To get the most out of your camera gear which must have cost $AU 2000 - 3000 including lenses and so on you need to spend same money on good software. It is false economy to try to make do on the PPL supplied with the camera.
