All scanners can scan older photos. Not all scanners can scan negatives and slides. Mine does both. It's an Epson 4490 Photo. And I bought it from Epson because I got a better deal than any where else on line.

Here's a nice one though refurbished, it comes with the same warranty as a new one does. It will scan prints, and negatives and slides:

Epson Perfection V300 Photo Scanner - Refurbished, Warranty - Product Information - Epson America, Inc.

I bought a printer that was refurbished from them and have never had any problems with it.

Of course if you have more money to spend than I do, you could consider another product. Such as the one I bought or the better one such as the V500.
