Importing problems with k7.

Hi Everyone.
I just got my K7 the other day and have just started to play with it. The problem is when I Try to import my photos to IPhoto or Aperture they seem to import and the thumbnails show up but when I click on them they tell me its an unsupported Image format. The pictures are shot in raw (pef). One picture I used one of the in camera filters on works fine
Can anyone help?
Thanks.
James

Your software isn't supporting the K-7 PEF file type. Try checking for updates.

iPhoto and Aperture both get their raw codecs directly from OS X, which has not been updated to include the K-7 yet. However, Aperture does have native DNG support so if you shoot in DNG raw instead of PEF you will have no problems importing and managing in Aperture.

Interesting. Usually when getting the unsupported file error the image turns to a reddish box. I haven't heard of green before. I am using K-7 DNG files in Aperture with no problems.

Yep, I'll second Dave's recommendation to switch to DNG. It is far more future-proof and allows you to access images from almost any native Mac application. I use Aperture as well and it works flawlessly. Kudos to Pentax for offering DNG, it's a much more flexible format than a proprietary RAW format.

Oh, by the way, you should be able to convert any of your current Pentax PEF format to DNG using Adobe's DNG Converter application (DNG Converter 5.4 or later will do the trick).
