New iMacs are pretty slick

Apple just announced it's new line of iMacs.

You can now get a 27" with a 2.8ghz i7 quadcore, 16gb ram, 2tb harddrive. The thing is beautiful.. Imagine editing photos on that thing. (it'd be the same as on my old imac but just faster. A LOT faster)

The new mouse is pretty slick too.

the new display is LED backlit as well.

Here's the video for it http://www.apple.com/imac/#video

I think I'll be picking one up in the next month.

Man, I might not be able to get my HDTV like I thought if I want a new camera body and now this!!

Darn you Apple for tempting me to spend money on something that I don't need...

Oh, the new iMacs have an sd card slot as well. Nothing big just a nice touch.

If I had $1700 right now I'd....build myself another computer and spend the money I had left over for a few lenses.

Apple's displays are top notch. The iMacs are an all in one.

About as good as it gets.

I think I'll be picking one up by the end of the year, which may delay my K20D until tax return time, but this way I can write it off before the end of the year.

They claim that the new ones are I-PS, which are the good kind. I have the last generation model and while it's nice, there is some banding and off-axis oddities. It's not as nice as the I-PS 24" Cinema Display sitting next to it.

I'm really considering a new mac. My desktop and photo editing computer is a 20" G5 iMac. It's getting a little slow for editing. I'm considering either a 15" macbook pro or a nice monitor for my 13" macBook along with an airport extreme and network drive. The missus is rockin' an old G4 iBook so she's probably next for an upgrade.

Wow. That's some serious vintage going on (in computer terms). Even a base level macbook (which was also updated today BTW) would be a very significant upgrade for her.

I've gone from the iMac G3 to the G4 and now one of the second gen. G5s.
Even my 2005 model G5's LCD screen is brilliant in every aspect - couldn't be happier.
Today's dual-core 24in iMacs have an even more brilliant screen, sharper and more refined.
Can hardly wait to see these 27in iMacs make it to Aus for a look...

The new screen (LED backlit) should put to rest any of the banding issues some people were experience.

Can't wait to go to a Best Buy and try one of these out!

Sure you could.
Paying a little more for it being built for you and not having to use Windows ain't all that bad.

It's also been released in Aus!
