Where to print photos?

So I'm getting request from family and friends to turn my photo's into gifts for Christmas. I really don't have a very good photo printer (Canon MP470) and don't have the cash to make the investment right now.

Where is a good place to get photo's printed? Does flickr provide good results? What format should I have them in when getting them done?

Any advice is very much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ken

For quick and cheap, I used FotoSource Canada - since they have Canada in the name, I suspect they are available down there as well. I ordered 17 different 5x7's at $1.98 each. They have them printed at a nearby photo print/retailer nearby. I live 85 miles from Cranbrook Photo who handled my order, so I paid $8 handling to have them mailed to me. I uploaded on Saturday, and they were here on Tuesday.

CVS and Walgreens do a fairly good job. Of course they only do up to 8x10s in house. You can send the files over the net and pick them up in a hour or so. My local stores have self service machines that are pretty good for quick prints.

If you want quality go with Adorama. Lots of paper to choose from and good prices as well. I recently did an order for 11x14s, 8x10s and 5x7s. No mistakes, great prints and packaged very well. And regular shipping is only about $5 for priority.

I really like Mpix.com. Follow them on Twitter and they post promo codes or recent sales pretty regularly. Here's the link to how to prepare files for printing with them if you're interested. I've gotten the $.19 prints without color correction and had excellent results, love the Kodak E-Surface paper. Also, had a couple of 8X10 done and they are excellent looking.

Get one of those Kodak printers. Low as $99 US. Output is good. I was surprised

I've used MPix as well with good results. Expensive over the border, though, and they have upped the flat rate charge to Canada to the point I can only afford to use them for the really special printing.

Adoramapix

I've gotten good results with Adorama's service. adoramapix.com. Prices are very reasonable and they charge a flat rate $5 shipping, so I wait until I have several to print. The offer 5 paper types and a whole range of sizes. I print up to 8x10 on a Canon inkjet but anything larger goes to them.

If I need a lot of small prints, I use Costco or WalMart. Both are cheaper than printing at home, though their quality isn't as good as Adoramapix for wall hangers.

Count me in as another person who is happy with Mpix.com's work. If it's something for a fast print job, you might have some good luck at Sam's Wholesale Club, however, the quality seems to depend on who is running the printer.

Many thanks for the recommendation for AdoramaPix; I hope that when you set up your [free] account with AdoramaPix you got your 25 free prints?

Many people use these free 4x6s to order some prints on all the different paper types; we usually recommend that customers print something that they've already seen in print, to provide a good comparison.

I have used Shutterfly and Snapfish.

Both are excellent and at a good price. I mostly use Shutterfly but if I need them quickly, Snapfish has an option to pick up at Walgreens (1 hour service).

If you are a Costco member, their prints are also good (they use Fuji Frontier machines) and if you calibrate your monitor, they match fairly well.

Here in town, believe it or not....Fred Meyer is awesome, every time i get some prints from them it amazes me. Their prints look exactly what I see on my monitor (it's calibrated) and I just got three 8x12 for $3.17 (total, not each)and they've started printing matte to boot.
