How many 14.6MP JPGs fit on 1 DVD-R?

Anyone know how many uncropped JPG's taken with a K20d or K-7 will fit onto one 4.7GB DVD-R? I know there may be some math equation that gives you the answer, but I'm awful at math.

It's simple division, just like with your dpi questions. You need to find out the size of your image files, as that will vary depend on what JPEG settings you use, what kind of scene you are shooting, and so forth. The file size will be measured in megabytes (MB), and your computer will hapily tell you that number. 4.7GB is 4700 MB. So if your image files are 10MB on average (that's probably at least close to correct), then you'll get 4700 / 10 = 470 images per DVD.

I average 8-9Mb JPEGs straight from camera, which become 7-8Mb JPEGs after PP even at 12/12 quality 300dpi with PS (?). So straight from camera, I'd get about 505 on a DVD (considering that my computer cannot use all 4.7Gb - it maxxes out at about 4.43Gb for some reason) and about 570 PP'd JPEGs.

About the same thing you can put on a 4gb. SD card. Just a tad more, since a DVD is 4.7gb.

Which is exactly why I use 4GB SDHC cards.

I had 560 images on a 4GB card last weekend (K7 running on 3star JPGs). Had room for about 20 more, but as Marc says... it depends!

The problem is if you edit them in photoshop. My edits in Gimp end up being around 150MB each (roughly 6-7 layers)-:

Who the hell edits a JPG and bothers with layers? That's a TIFF file surely?
