Is this normal. Also it only work in jpeg. I would like a noise filter program in raw.
To use RAW, you need the paid for versions of Noiseware.
I've been using one of those versions, and I find it generally works well. I typically use Noiseware on Tiffs in Photoshop.
Most noise removal software is going to reduce some detail in an image as that is what noise reduction does. Some software will do better than others at removing noise and keeping detail. Generally, I find Noiseware works well. However, I don't count on it...
My workflow is to duplicate the image to a second layer (I do most PP in Lightroom, so I have pretty much the final TIff if Photoshop as the background). I run Noiseware on that layer. I then inspect the noise reduced image at 100% zoom over important areas of detail, and I observe (by turning the layer on and off) the with or without noise reduction images. If the detail loss is significant, I will use a layer mask to let the portions that have details I want to keep show through.
There are many intermediate ways of playing with it, but most of the time, noise reduction is needed on my skies, so I am often just masking off the sky.
