K7 RAW (.PEF) files - won't preview in OS X Quicklook

Hi guys,

I'm on OS X 10.6.1, and find it a bit annoying that the K7's native .PEF files don't seem to display in quicklook. I also own a K100D Super, and the raw files from that display fine.

(For the uninitiated - quicklook is the little preview window that pops up when you select a file in Finder and press Spacebar).

Is there any workaround, plugin, or fix for this?
I haven't tried saving to .DNG yet, but suspect it will probably work. It would be nice to continue using .PEF though.

Thanks,
Jeremy

I have the same problem with PSP X2 and the K7

You can get DNG Convert free from adobe that will convert the PEF files to a readable DNG version

Thanks, but I really don't want to add an extra step - I may as well just save in .DNG format in the K7. It loads in quickview fine, and the filesize is smaller too (17.8Mb vs 13.8Mb!)

I can't figure out why anyone is using the PEF format when they have the option of DNG out of camera.

OS X does not yet support PEF files from the K7. They are a little overdue for an update so hopefully this will get corrected soon.

I just shoot in DNG in my K7 as it is easier than converting them later and the DNG is a far better supported format than PEF.

Well, .PEF works fine in Photoshop Lightoom.. and as my image 'workflow' is entirely in LR, there's no problem! It's just when having a quick peek on my cards that the quicklook issue bugs me.

Anyway, switched the .DNG, so it looks like it's resolved; thanks guys.
