Elements and Lightroom...

I don't understand--Elements is supposed to do 90% of the things that Photoshop CS can do, yet it costs under $100 while Lightroom is supposed to be a pretty simple RAW processing/editing/workflow program, yet it's $300.

What's the deal?

For me, the deal is that with Lightroom, you can do some pretty cool stuff quickly, in a "batch mode" kind of way, and go from RAW to pretty picture quickly. Did I mention that it's all done relatively quickly?

What I mean is that, say you have a string of 20 pictures of the same subject in the same light, same background, etc. You adjust the WB, tone, etc., for one, then apply it to the other 19. To me, endlessly fiddling w/ a picture quickly becomes a pain the neck. With Lightroom I can weed out the crap and concentrate on the few keepers with a minimum of fuss & hassle. Any form of PS seems to slow the whole process down a whole lot.

My 2 cents. YMMV.

I just bought Elements and to be honest with you, regardless of the price of the software, it's gonna be a while before I understand it enough to do jack s**t with it.
Anybody have any suggestions for which is the best book available?
Thanks

To Damn Brit (and anyone else interested): I found information on books in the thread cited below and also in another thread in the category Post Processing and Software:

I have both Elements 6 and Lightroom. I do most everything I want in Lightroom. It is much more intuitive to use and seems to be a natural extension of my hand. Elements seems much more like a bulky elephant to use.

I have the same two programs. I seldom use layers, but when I need one, I need Elements 6 because Lightroom 1.x does not do layers. (Have not looked at LR 2).

This can be done in Elements 6 too. Just select the raw images in the organizer, right click and go to full edit. The first image will open in the raw converter and the thumbnails of all selected images will appear on the left hand side. What ever corrections you apply to the first image will ripple through the others. You can open or save from there. I learnt this neat trick week, a great time saver.

Am I hearing you say that Elements 6 will open RAW files and do batch processing?
