Hi Gary. I strongly reccomend "Hidden Power of Photoshop Elements" by Richard Lynch. I am simply a VERY satisfied customer of the Elements 2 book. Richard does a great job explaining the reason(s) for using particular tools and techniques and he supports his customers very well.

Even better, his book comes with important tools to unlock much of the full power of photoshop that Adobe tries to hide.

It doesn't appear he has published an Elements 6 book yet, but check his web site or support forum for information. It does seem he has at least a beta version of his "power tools" for Elements 6 ready.

I'd recommend "Photoshop Elements 6, The Missing Manual" by Barbara Brundage. It can be found at MissingManuals.com -- Welcome to the home of O'Reilly Media's Missing Manual series , and is $39.95US retail. It seems to be regarded as "the book that should have been in the box". I have found it invaluable, much better than trolling throught help files. There are instructions on page 5 re Mac users. Good luck.

Here's another thought. Go to your local library and see what they have. Check out several to test drive and see what you like the best, then buy that one. Doing that will give you a couple to several weeks to figure out which one you like the best. I don't know about where you are but at my library the computer books are one section we update a LOT. If you can't find them ask at the reference/information desk. They're there to help.

Advice from your friendly forum librarian.

Good idea Mel, thanks. It's a resource we all seem to forget about using.

Advanced Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Digital Photographers by Philip Andrews

Advanced Photoshop Elements 5.0 for Digital Photographers by Philip Andrews

I just returned this book back to my local library and it is very comprehensive. It is labeled advanced but it is more of a how to book. There are pages of detailed procedures on how to do just about anything to your images that you want. Each subject is covered in one or more pages with illustrations and before and after photos. I am buying a copy of the new one for Elements 6.0. Highly recommended!

I have been using Photoshop Elements 3.0 since it came out and needed an upgrade so I purchased Photoshop Elements 6.0 last month. What a great improvement!

To SWEngineer, Thanks very much for the information you provided about resources by Lynch. I knew nothing about his materials.
Thanks also to the other posters.
